Delhi Slum Teaching
At the end of 2015 after trekking to Everest Basecamp, I spent some time volunteering at a school in the Faridabad slums, which is located about an hour outside of Delhi. Although I did not enjoy the program, due to some issues with the way the company I was volunteering through was being run, it was a very eye opening experience for me. A friend I met through the program and I were able to purchase and donate some supplies directly to the school.
While volunteering, I was also able to quite a bit of sightseeing around Delhi, including the Taj Mahal, Humayan's Tomb, India Gate, and Lotus Temple.
One piece of advice I do have to give if you have ever considered volunteering abroad, is please take the time to RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!! It's also important you are volunteering necessary skills that they need, as some tourists do fall into the traps of unethical "volunteerism".
